I Made Mistakes at CMA Fest 2024 So You Don’t Have To – Day 1

I had landed in Nashville the night before, unprepared for what was to come. Having never been to Nashville, the United States of America or CMA Fest, I had no idea what to expect, especially, considering my trip was booked last minute. The first thing I did was download the CMA Fest app. I like having a loose plan when I travel so this was perfect in telling me which artist was playing, when and on what stage – which was helpful yet also flawed (but more on this later).

Formally known as Fan Fair, CMA Fest began in 1972. This year’s festival raised more than $2.5 million for music education and saw more than 90,000 people flock to Nashville, Tennessee.

Review: ‘Sunset Boulevard’ at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre (2024)

It’s been two days since I saw Opera Australia and GWB Entertainment’s production of Sunset Boulevard, and I’m still conflicted on whether or not I enjoyed it. But, in retrospect, I would like to see it again, and I suppose that’s the greatest compliment of all.

INTERVIEWS WITH Peter Rowsthorn and Asabi Goodman FROM CHICAGO: THE MUSICAL

Murder, greed, corruption, exploitation, adultery, treachery… and All That Jazz… so begins the international multi-award-winning musical. The longest-running musical on Broadway, Chicago is now playing in Melbourne, followed by Sydney, Adelaide and Canberra.

Set amidst the decadence of the 1920s, Chicago is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer Billy Flynn to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.

It stars Anthony Warlow as Billy Flynn; Zoë Ventoura as nightclub singer and vaudevillian Velma Kelly; Lucy Maunder as Roxie Hart; Peter Rowsthorn as Roxie’s gullible and hapless husband, Amos; and Asabi Goodman as sassy prison warden Matron ‘Mama’ Morton.
