Just over 24 hours after announcing that Australia’s most beloved film, The Castle, will be reimagined for the stage, the production has set a new box office record, achieving the highest first day ticket sales for a play in Her Majesty’s Theatre history.
Nearly 30 years after its release, The Castle continues to strike a chord with Australians, with audiences rushing to secure tickets to experience the beloved story live on stage for the very first time. That enthusiasm has also been reflected across social media, where fans have declared the production a “Match made in heaven” and “Iconic!”, while others posted, “Booked this morning. Cannot wait. Bring on the vibe” and “Straight to the pool room!”
Written for the stage by the film’s original creators Rob Sitch, Tom Gleisner, Santo Cilauro and Jane Kennedy, the new adaptation brings the Kerrigan family back with all the humour, heart and iconic lines audiences know and love, alongside new laughs and contemporary references created especially for the stage.
