London Musicals Ranked (Plus A Show From Liverpool Too!)

I was recently in London and managed twelve musicals in eight days – and believe me, I would have seen more had I could (the lack of Monday matinee was frustrating). The additional purpose of my trip was to attend the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool, and I managed to see a musical while I was there too.

I thought, considering many of these are currently still playing, that it would be fun to rank the musicals I saw from worst to best. Note, none were bad, but something has to come last.

Review: ‘The Marvellous Elephant Man: The Musical’ at Chapel Off Chapel, Melbourne (2023)

After a sold-out run at Wonderland Spiegeltent as part of Adelaide’s Fringe Festival, for which it won the Adelaide Critics Circle Award, The Marvellous Elephant Man: The Musical has arrived at Chapel Off Chapel for a limited season as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Review: ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ at Melbourne’s State Theatre (2022)

The Phantom of the Opera has come to Melbourne’s State Theatre, The Art Centre – and you’d be hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t heard of the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic, let alone someone who didn’t rank it in their top 10 favourite musicals.

Thus, the expectation is higher than your average show. Succeed, and you have a hit on your hands. Fail, and there would be outroar in the streets!

Luckily, the 2022-2023 production falls in the former.

News: ‘Wicked The Musical’ Returns To Sydney In 2023

NSW Minister for Tourism and the Arts, Ben Franklin, together with producers John Frost for Crossroads Live Australia, Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone, has announced that Wicked will open in Sydney in August 2023 at the Sydney Lyric.

tick, tick… BOOM! hits Australia in 2023!

After the success of the 2021 biographical musical drama film tick, tick… BOOM! starring Andrew Garfield, the musical of the same name makes its Australian mainstage debut at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre from 1 February 2023 before a limited season at QPAC’s Playhouse in Brisbane.
