For our second exclusive today, we’re lucky enough to have an exclusive stream of Copperline‘s debut album Rusty Fords and Weatherboards, out Monday 19th (We’ve already heard it … and we’re secretly obsessed!).

Produced by ARIA-Award winner Shane Nicholson at Sound Hole Studios on NSW’s Central Coast, the album comes after the release of the Sydney-based four piece band’s debut single and video, Woman’s Touch.

“It’s an album that ‘has probably been ten years in the making,’ says singer/songwriter Brad Christmas, “which is about how long we’ve been playing together and how long we’ve been talking about releasing an album of our own tunes.”

The album comes after the release of the group’s debut single and video, Woman’s Touch, a break up story celebrating the little things in a relationship that brighten up your day. The energetic opener typifies the kind of storytelling central to Copperline, while tracks like Satisfaction Guaranteed and Social Network Blues display a soon-to-be-trademarked sense of humour and a musical versatility that is bound to please live audiences.

Live audiences, in fact, were largely the inspiration for Rusty Fords and Weatherboards. “Over the past ten years we’ve been busy playing hundreds, if not thousands, of shows in other projects,” says Christmas, “and we’ve travelled to lots of places and met loads of wild and wonderful people. We’ve come out of that brimming with stories that just have to be told.”

These stories range from the heartbreaking and melancholic Please Don’t Cry and King Of This Country to Playing the Hopetoun, a nostalgic dedication to Sydney’s lost live music venue.

Christmas says that Rusty Fords and Weatherboards “has given us a vehicle to share those stories from the road and indulge our love of twangy country and dirty blues.” He’s not wrong. Featuring bluesy riffs and a deft touch on the piano, the ten tracks making up the album create a musical journey that parallels the one taken by the boys over the past decade, full of ups and downs and highways and byways.
