An Interview with Gord Bamford

dsc02364

Australian-born, Canadian-raised Gord Bamford is a father, country singer-songwriter, and multi-award winner – he’s won 23 CCMA Awards to boast, so he’s kind of a big deal! Making up one seventh of acts appearing alongside the Wolfe Brothers on their This Crazy Life multi-festival Australian tour; I caught up with Gord, on the last weekend of the tour in Queensland, to talk about starting over, Australia and living up to the tour name.

Have you picked up any slang while you’ve been down here?

I’m picking it up. I love the accent – I wish I could get it back. A lot of people say they like the accent I’ve got, I go, “I’ll trade ya!” I left here when I was five so I spent most of my years in Alberta, Canada, but I live in Nashville with my family now. I don’t think it’d be hard to pick it up as I spend more time here.

An Interview with The Settlement

The Settlement, a Victorian alternative/folk band from the rural town of Hamilton, are anything but settled these days. A rising star of the music scene, The Settlement are about to embark on the second leg of a nationwide tour, off the back of the release of their new single She’s Alright, and in anticipation of their forthcoming album.

Before they hit the road again, the guys from The Settlement – Calvano (vocals, guitar), Baker (bass), Matty (violin), Jase (guitar) and Harry (drums) – kindly sat down with me to discuss their new single She’s Alright, their soon-to-be-released album and what the future holds.

Hi guys – Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions today, I’ll start by asking how you all came together and how long you’ve been together for now?

Cheers, thanks for taking the time to ask a few questions. The band started a long time ago in Hamilton, Vic. It’s only a small town so there wasn’t many young peeps playing tunes, so I suppose we just gravitated towards each other. Along the way we’ve met other musicians and if they on the same vibe they slotted in. The Settlement has been going for about 2 years, but we’ve been jamming and gigging with each other for about 6 years.

My Favourite Five Upcoming Sequels

john-wick-chapter-2-keanu-reeves

I would have LOVED to be able to put Bill and Ted’s whatever whatever third installment n this list, but alas, are the rumours true? Are they not? Can we get an answer? We have a plot. We know the plot. When’s the movie going to be made? Can we crowd-fund it? Is that possible? I just want it made! Alas. I’m also super excited to see the new Flatliners – although I don’t think it can compare with the original. It scared the bejesus out of me!

Interview: Tom Wolfe from The Wolfe Brothers

It’s been a whirlwind of couple of years for the Wolfe Brothers! Since their second place finish on Australia’s Got Talent in 2012, the band has taken home two Country Music Channel Awards (New Oz Artist of the Year in 2014 and Group or Duo of the Year in 2016 respectfully), recorded with Brad Paisley, and their third album release has been newly ARIA-nominated for Best Country Album. They’re about to hit the road on the This Crazy Life tour – being branded as a mini country festival alongside Canadian, Gord Bamford; New Zealand’s Jody Direen; and Australia’s own Troy Kemp, Craig Heath, Caitlyn Shadbolt – it’s a unique tour not to be missed!

Firstly, congratulations on your ARIA nomination for Best Country Album!

Thank you very much. It’s pretty damn cool. To be nominated, we must be doings something right. I’m really happy about that. There’s a lot of stuff going on so we haven’t had time to [celebrate]. I’m hoping once this weekends done, Saturday night, I might celebrate a bit. That’s the plan anyway.

My Favourite Five: Songs That Motivate

Whether you’re in a particular mood or looking for something that you can relate to, music can be a great place to turn. With so many songs around, music is always there for you, even when no one else is. It can give you a sense of comfort, energy or background companionship while you carry on with your day. It can pick you up, make you dwell or give you a way to grieve. It can even motivate you to keep going; either in general or during a task you are less than thrilled about *cough* housework and exercise *cough*

Here are five songs that work for me. Even if we have completely different tastes in music I hope this list at least gets you thinking about your own musical motivators:
