OZ Comic Con Melbourne Write Up 2015

So, OZ Comic Con feels like it was a while ago – and to be fair, it kind of was, so I don’t remember as much as I probably should. But here’s a bit of a write up for anyone who is interested in panel tidbits and whatnot.

I’m going off memory so some details may be slightly off.

Includes: David Hewlett, David Nykl, David Wenham, Bruce Campbell, Stephen Hunter, Adam Brown, Jewel Staite, Scott Patterson and Billy Boyd (with Dominic Monaghan).

I also just want to note, that throughout the weekend, I got to meet/talk to: David Hewlett, David Nykl, David Wenham, Bruce Campbell, Stephen Hunter, Adam Brown, Scott Patterson, Billy Boyd, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Naomi Grossman, Emma Caulfield, Amber Benson and Paul Blackthorne. I have so many warm fuzzy memories!

Interview: Musician Simon Gibson of ‘The Coolites’

a2664581741_10Singer, songwriter, guitarist and drummer – Simon Gibson is a well rounded performer. He returns to Australia, after living/performing in Vietnam, with the newly-formed band The Coolites and brings you their debut album Caravan Park Summers. I spoke to Simon about living overseas, performing, summer memories and the new album.

You just got back from Saigon. How was it? I’ve never been.

Saigon’s a great place. It’s pretty wild [and] it wears you out. It’s [also] very busy and noisy but it’s an interesting place to live – particularly when you first go there. In the first year or two, it’s actually really really good, but I’ve been there for over 7 years. Having said, I will be going back there in a while for a couple of weeks because I still have a lot of stuff over there. It’s a good place, it’s fun, it’s interesting. It’s another world really.

Binge Watching Favourites: Cover Affairs S1 Ep1 – Pilot (extended version)

Covert Affairs is a sassy, well developed, action-packed spy drama. It has the intrigue and intensity of Alias and the quick wit and friendly banter of Bones (with sarcasm thrown into the mix too). Add to that characters that draw you in and I’m hooked!

Here’s my run down of the pilot episode: Continue reading “Binge Watching Favourites: Cover Affairs S1 Ep1 – Pilot (extended version)”

Let’s step back in time a second to September 1991. I was a lad all of 13 years old and I had just witnessed as close to a perfect science fiction film as I will ever see. That movie was Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the James Cameron masterpiece that took the brilliant ideas introduced in his 1984 original and expanded and explored them further than anyone could have hoped for. The ending of Judgment Day ended on a perfect, optimistic note, and I walked out of the cinema happy knowing that Cameron’s one-two punch of Terminator films was complete.

I’ve Been Watching Too Many Movies And Now My Brain Hurts

If my life was a movie the plot would not make a whole lot of sense. The scene changes would be epic and the settings a weird mix of eras and props. As the lead I would be a bundle of characters, the personality traits mashed together like an emotional patchwork mess. Continue reading “I’ve Been Watching Too Many Movies And Now My Brain Hurts”

My Five Favourite Will Smith Songs

I’m not one of those people who listens to the same genre of music over and over again. In fact, my music is all kinds of eccentric, strange and wonderful that my shuffle mix would blow your mind. The music I listen to depends on the mood I’m in and lately its just called for classic Will Smith tunes. So here, I bring you – my five favourite Will Smith songs.

Be prepared to take a blast into the past. It’s been a while since he released a song! I’d love to see Will combine making movies and releasing songs into one again.
